His sensitive wife, Mrs. Margery Pendyce, strives to uncover the true intentions of the enigmatic Mrs. Bellew to free her son from hopeless entanglements. Ultimately, life in the country house continues with its busy comfort, moral cleanliness, the interplay of fresh air and floral warmth, complete mental tranquility, and a willful ignorance of any form of suffering.
