Volume II: Cumberland's biggest horse races are the background for a murder story. A bookie's clerk is found dead; Inspector Armstrong is certain there's more to this than a lone murder. In the second case, Inspector Armstrong is invited to meet the Kaiser while he is visiting his friend, the Fifth Earl of Lonsdale. The Inspector notes an unauspicious mix of people at the castle, and matters change so quickly, the Inspector must race against time to prevent murder.
