At turns humorous, ironic, and sentimental, an engaging portrait of their attempts to flee from history (meaning the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia) - or at least to ignore it as long as possible. The author depicts his parents' life stories and also his own adolescence with humorous hyperbole. The account focuses on the difficulties of the father, an idiosyncratic workaholic whose efforts to protect his family regularly involve losing his dignity. Satira a humor v jednom. Jsem ročník 83 a tak chápu mnohé negativní recenze od mladších čtenářů. Román je dobový a myslím si, že do povinné četby na českých školách je zařazen zbytečně. Každopádně kniha je tak 100x lepší než film.
Za mě dosud nepřekonané dílo tohoto autora, mnohem lepší i než velmi kvalitní filmové zpracování. Knížka je vtipná, opravdová, originální, nikdy neomrzí. Úžasné jazykové hříčky a situační vtip.
Kvido se stal součástí (nejen) mého dospívání, i ve zfilmované podobě skvost:)
