The Vikings were great warriors and cruel enemies. They were wonderful boat-builders and loved the challenge of invading unknown lands. Their heroes were remembered in fine stories called sagas. But the Irish hated and feared them because for more than 200 years they murdered and plundered along our coast. It seemed they were invincible! Then at last a powerful Irish leader emerged to fight the greatest battle of his life.
