The narrative revolves around Joe Bernardi, who is eager to secure a film contract with handsome leading man Robert Wagner for his spy character, Sam August. However, complications arise on the set of "Harper" when Wagner's stand-in, known as Ben Boxer, is actually a private investigator's operative. Tensions escalate when a novelist from Wagner's wife's past is murdered, with Wagner becoming the prime suspect. As Joe delves deeper, he encounters a cast of quirky suspects, including a Cockney femme fatale and a shady producer, all while unraveling a mystery tied to a dying woman in Belfast.
