Known for his sensational fiction, Guy Newell Boothby crafted intriguing narratives during the late 19th century, often set against Gothic backdrops. His notable works include the Dr Nikola series, featuring an occultist criminal mastermind reminiscent of Fu Manchu, and Pharos, the Egyptian, which delves into themes of curses and supernatural revenge in an Egyptian setting. Boothby, who spent much of his life in England, was mentored by Rudyard Kipling and left a lasting impression on writers like George Orwell.
