The plot follows Greg Martens and his wife, Anne Rossiter, as they are summoned to Vienna to investigate the disappearance of their friend, Julia Saparova, a nuclear monitor in Russia. Fearing that sinister elements from the former Soviet Union are involved, they delve into a dangerous world of human and arms trafficking. Their quest leads them through Hungary and Montenegro, where they aim to rescue Julia and a group of trafficked girls, all while uncovering a plot tied to a nuclear heist.
