It highlights the influences of French, Roman, and Celtic languages on Scottish vocabulary, grammar, and phonology, as well as the impact of geographical divisions on language use. While current differences between Scottish English and Standard English are minimal, the paper emphasizes the significance of historical distinctions for Scottish identity and independence.
