Set in the village of Bunthorne, the story follows lovesick maidens infatuated with the self-absorbed poet Reginald Bunthorne, who is instead drawn to the indifferent milkmaid Patience. This leads to humorous romantic entanglements, especially with a group of dragoon guards also vying for the maidens’ affection.
