The story centers on Wanniukaga, a 400-year-old healer and the last of his people, grappling with vampirism and the spirits of his ancestors. Set in a decaying St. Louis, he navigates a world marked by economic hardship and the loss of his cultural traditions. As he struggles to preserve his heritage amidst rapid change, he finds companionship in two homeless teenagers. Together, they face threats from other vampires, amateur slayers, and a ruthless military operator, all while Wanniukaga balances his fragmented identity and legacy.
