As U.S. troops prepare to leave Afghanistan, Malko Linge, an Austrian aristocrat, is tasked by the CIA with a risky mission to stabilize the region amidst the Taliban's resurgence. In Kabul, he reconnects with an old love and enlists a South African mercenary, but faces treachery from multiple sides, including President Karzai's circle and a rogue CIA agent.
