Set against the backdrop of the North Carolina foothills, the story revolves around the complex dynamics of the Moon women: matriarch Marvelle, who is struggling with aging; her daughter Ruth Ann, who seeks independence; and Ruth Ann's daughter Ashley, who faces the challenges of early motherhood after rehab.
