Adelaide Adams, an amateur sleuth and often mocked as "Old Battle-ax," finds herself entangled in a murder mystery at the Hotel Richelieu. While knitting in the lobby, she unwittingly witnesses the events leading to a woman's horrific death. As the plot unfolds, Adelaide's investigation leads her into unexpected danger, including a night of peril where she must navigate a web of deception and violence, all while confronting her own unconventional methods and the assumptions of those around her.
