The story follows Stewart "Hoagy" Hoag, a once-famous novelist now working as a ghostwriter, as he navigates his complicated relationship with his ex-wife, actress Merilee Nash. After a summer spent together at her Connecticut farm, Merilee extends an invitation for him to stay in her luxurious Central Park apartment while she films a movie. This gesture raises questions about the potential revival of their on-again, off-again romance, all while Hoagy struggles to focus on his long-awaited second novel.
