Set against the backdrop of the upper Columbia River, the narrative follows a Sinixt Indian family as they navigate life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Each summer, they journey from Revelstoke, B.C., to Kettle Falls in search of salmon, a vital resource for their diet and culture. The construction of the Grand Coulee Dam marks a turning point, flooding the falls and disrupting the salmon's spawning route, which devastates the way of life for fourteen tribes reliant on this crucial food source.
