The story follows ten-year-old Mary Lennox, a lonely and bitter girl orphaned by a cholera epidemic in India. Sent to live with her distant uncle at Misselthwaite Manor, she discovers a neglected secret garden. With the help of a friendly robin and Dickon, a nature-savvy local boy, Mary begins to restore the garden, which symbolizes her own transformation.
