The bittersweet histories of the early settlers of southern Colorado are vividly portrayed through the various stories included in Warriors, Widows & Orphans. The author has built upon tall tales recounted by wandering Indian tribes, Spanish conquistadors, murderous outlaws, railroad saboteurs, cowpunchers, labor union activists, and battle-hardened soldiers. To these she has added a battery of facts, accurate depictions of each setting, and a little imagination to reconstruct the stories of the men and women who populated this fascinating region.
