Four stories of four different women in four different settings: modern-day Montana; the planet Nybain; 1879 Scotland; and 1812 Longbourn, England (Jane Austin's "Elizabeth"). In the first story, Anna and Stephen are on the trail of a murderer. The second story is about Tess who fights corruption on the planet Nybain with the help of Callahan. Tale #3 Katrin is coerced by her father into marrying Alistair Comrie, a man she's met only once. The final story: Elizabeth Bennett seeking justice against Jane Austin's unscrupulous characters.
