When Palmer Stoat notices a black pickup truck following him, he fears his Range Rover is about to be carjacked. However, Twilly Spree, the man tailing him, seeks vengeance rather than a vehicle. Wealthy and short-tempered, Twilly is committed to saving Florida's wilderness from destruction and employs extreme measures, such as torching Jet-Skis and blowing up banks, to make his point. After witnessing Stoat carelessly littering, Twilly decides to teach him a lesson by infesting his prized Range Rover with dung beetles. This could have been the end of it, but Twilly soon learns Stoat is a powerful political fixer involved in a project that threatens a pristine Gulf Coast island. The story escalates into a series of Hiaasen-style antics, featuring dognapping eco-terrorists, fraudulent hunters, a Republicans-only hooker, and an infamous ex-governor embracing nature. With thousands of singing toads and a remarkable Labrador retriever, the narrative is filled with outrageous humor and a strong ecological message.
