On a cruise ship between Algiers and Venice, Martin Boyne, an unmarried engineer in his forties, encounters a wild, ebullient menagerie of stepbrothers and sisters, kept together as a 'family' by the efforts of the eldest, the lovely, fifteen-year-old Judith.
