  Pätnásť kníh Egypťana Sinuheho uvádza čitateľa do čias starého Egypta v rokoch 1390 až 1335 pred naším letopočtom. Múdry a vzdelaný lekár v štvrti chudobných prijal malého najdúcha, dal mu meno Sinuhe, zasvätil ho do tajomstiev liečenia a okrem všetkej starostlivosti ho zahrnul aj láskou.No Sinuhe, ktorého už aj meno predurčuje k osamelosti, postupne odvrhuje všetkých, čo ho milujú, až sa dostane na dvor faraóna Echnatona a stane sa jeho dôverníkom. Po faraónovej smrti však Sinuhe upadne do nemilosti a jeho bývalý priateľ, egyptský vojvodca a uchádzač o faraónsky stolec, ho pošle do vyhnanstva. Tu starnúci Sinuhe píše svoje pamäti, aby sám pred sebou ospravedlnil činy, ktorých sa dopustil často proti vlastnej vôli a vlastnému presvedčeniu, len zo slabosti a neschopnosti vzoprieť sa brutalite vládychtivých mocnárov. Množstvo exotických zážitkov, plnokrvných postáv historických udalostí udržiava čitateľa v ustavičnom napätí. Dielo Miku Waltariho preslávilo tohto fínskeho spisovateľa, narodeného r. 1908, po celom svete. Známy je divadelnými hrami a v posledných rokoch aj detektívkami, ale najznámejšie jednako zostávajú jeho historické romány: Egypťan Sinuhe, Riman Minutus a Nesmrteľný Turms.
