The book examines the shift in the welfare state's role towards promoting "social engagement" and "active participation" over passive benefits, particularly after the 2008 crisis. It highlights local integration programs in rural Hungary aimed at enhancing self-sufficiency among vulnerable social groups. Focusing on the social land program, the analysis reviews key developments, changing conditions, and adaptation strategies of local communities over the past 25 years, providing insights into potential future directions for these programs.

Die Transformation des Sozialstaates hat Soziale Arbeit in Europa entscheidend verändert. Die Politik des „Schirms“ soll als Mechanismus wirken, der gesellschaftliche Reichtum umverteilt werden.
