Set in 1961, the story follows Spook, a boy whose idyllic life is disrupted when his mother moves them to a cramped flat in Melbourne. Struggling to adjust, he grapples with the challenges posed by their unpleasant landlady, Mrs. Green, and is haunted by confusion surrounding his father's past and an incident involving a jumping tree. As Spook navigates this new reality, themes of childhood innocence, family dynamics, and the search for belonging emerge.
