Al Qaeda recognized that their mission to dismantle Western capitalist culture would face significant challenges if they continued using the same tactics employed in previous attacks. Alan Johnson, an ex-SAS soldier with experience in the Middle East, fit this new recruitment profile. His life took a dark turn when British troops killed his girlfriend, leaving him bitter and vengeful.
