In pursuit of Squirrel Sally on his way back from Fort Liberty, the infamous Iron Eyes is bushwhacked by a pair of horse thieves who steal his thoroughbred palomino stallion. Leaving him for dead, the outlaws head on to the logging town of Bear Creek. What neither man knows is that Squirrel Sally has observed the outlaws leaving the valuable palomino stallion at the livery stable. The fiery female realizes that Iron Eyes would never willingly part with his prized horse and fears the worst. Squirrel Sally sets out to find her beloved Iron Eyes and learn the truth.

A wounded bounty hunter pursues the outlaw Joe Brewster into a harsh desert, losing his pony and resorting to foot travel. He unexpectedly discovers an oasis inhabited by families living in fear of Don Miguel Sanchez and his vaqueros. The notorious bounty hunter known as Iron Eyes is tracking down his errant sweetheart 'Squirrel' Sally, and his quest takes him all the way from Mexico to the forests of the West. Iron Eyes finds himself staring at a forest. A forest that reminds him of a time long before he had become the scarred, infamous bounty hunter he now was. As he waits for his beloved Squirrel Sally to show up on her stagecoach, his mind drifts back to how it had all started. Iron Eyes remembers the time when he first set foot out of the forest where he had grown to manhood. The forest was where he had been abandoned as a baby and raised by timber wolves.
