Celý život viedol kampaň napriek odporu a zlému zdravotnému stavu a obhajoval reformy v mnohých oblastiach spoločnosti. Bol zakladateľom Spoločnosti pre misie v cirkvi a organizácie, ktorá sa neskôr stala známa ako RSPCA.
