Josephine Caminos Oría sa narodila v Argentíne, ale od detstva vyrastala v Pittsburghu v Pensylvánii. Zbierajúc sa okolo stola, pri ktorom sa rodina schádzala pri jedle a rozhovoroch po ňom, sa naučila chápať svet prostredníctvom príbehov o svojom pôvode a ľuďch, ktorých jej rodina zanechala.
