Focusing on the subtitling of television series, this work examines the translation of informal language, vulgar expressions, and African American Vernacular English (AAVE). It provides a theoretical foundation for understanding subtitling practices and reviews these specific challenges. By analyzing scenes from the American series The Wire, the author compares the original dialogues with HBO's subtitled translations and offers suggestions for improvement, enhancing comprehension of the discussed translatological issues.
