The study explores the benefits of extensive green roofs as a sustainable solution to reduce the environmental impact of buildings in Riyadh's harsh climate. It highlights how these vegetation-covered roofs outperform traditional concrete roofs in lowering indoor air temperatures by 2°C to 5.5°C during summer. Additionally, the research indicates that green roofs can lead to a significant reduction in air conditioning energy consumption, ranging from 12% to 33%, by providing effective, eco-friendly insulation.

Exploring the detrimental effects of urbanization on health, this study highlights the concept of nature-deficit disorder, exacerbated by industrialization. It examines how vertical garden systems can mitigate issues like air pollution and mental illness in cities, particularly focusing on historic buildings in San Diego's Gaslamp district.
