Lewis Tappan

    Lewis Tappan bol významný abolicionista, ktorý sa intenzívne zasadzoval za slobodu nelegálne zotročených Afričanov z lode Amistad. Vďaka jeho úsiliu a zabezpečeniu kvalitných právnych zástupcov boli títo Afričania po rozhodnutí Najvyššieho súdu Spojených štátov oslobodení. Tappan sa tiež podieľal na získavaní finančnej podpory a zvyšovaní povedomia verejnosti o ich prípade. Po občianskej vojne stál pri založení Americkej misijnej asociácie, ktorá podporovala vznik protizotročovacích cirkví a vzdelávacích inštitúcií pre oslobodených otrokov.
