The House of the Two Skeletons at Morgantina

The House of the Two Skeletons, located in the western quarter of Morgantina, Sicily, was excavated fully between 2014 and 2016, following partial investigations in 1971 and 2004/05. Constructed around 250 BC, this modest courtyard house covered 389 m² and comprised 20 rooms. Over its 50–60 years of use, it underwent four remodels and was divided into two separate houses before the Roman conquest in 211 BC. At the end of this phase, two adult women were hastily buried in corner rooms, leading to the house's modern name. After the conquest, the structure saw limited residential and unspecified industrial use. This work presents a thorough analysis of the archaeological findings from the site, detailing each room's architecture, stratigraphy, and artifacts, while also interpreting their functions and phases. Key thematic discussions explore construction materials, water management, kitchens, domestic cult practices, metal finds, coins, and the skeletons. The conclusion synthesizes the house's development and function, placing it within the broader urban and regional context of Sicily.
