The life of Aristophanes, often regarded as the Father of Comedy, remains largely a mystery, with only eleven of his forty plays surviving. Born between 456 and 446 BC, possibly as an adopted citizen of Athens, he vividly depicted Athenian life through his works. His sharp wit and ridicule targeted influential figures like Socrates and Cleon, earning him both acclaim and controversy. His plays not only reflect the social and political climate of ancient Athens but also stand as the sole remnants of Ancient Greek comedy, showcasing his significant impact on literature.
