The life of Aristophanes remains largely a mystery, but his eleven surviving plays solidify his legacy as the Father of Comedy. Born between 456 BC and 446 BC, he was likely the son of Philippus of Ægina, raised in Athens. His works vividly depict Athenian life and showcase his sharp wit, which earned him the ire of powerful figures like Plato and Cleon. Notably, his play The Clouds was implicated in Socrates' trial. Despite the uncertainties surrounding his life and death, Aristophanes' contributions are invaluable, representing the essence of Ancient Greek comedy.
