Aristophanes, often hailed as the Father of Comedy, is known for his eleven surviving plays that vividly depict ancient Athenian life. Born between 456 and 446 BC, possibly as an adopted citizen of Athens, he wielded a sharp intellect and a powerful sense of ridicule, which made him a formidable figure among his peers, including Plato. His works, such as The Clouds and The Knights, not only entertained but also critiqued societal figures like Socrates and Cleon, leaving a lasting legacy as the sole remnants of Ancient Greek comedy.
