Viac o knihe

The term "no humans involved" arose after the 1991 Rodney King beating, revealing that the Los Angeles Police Department used it to refer to casework involving Black and Latino men and sex workers. In 1994, Sylvia Wynter challenged her academic peers to reflect on their roles in perpetuating a narrow definition of humanity influenced by race, which leads to social hierarchies and injustices. This collection features contemporary artists responding to Wynter's challenge. Among them is Eddie Aparicio, who employs large-scale rubber casts of trees to illustrate social and economic ties between Latin America and the U.S. Tau Lewis creates portraits from culturally significant found objects and recycled materials, while Wilmer Wilson IV explores the marginalization of Black bodies through performance, sculpture, and photography. This diverse array of artworks offers a contemporary response to Wynter's call, addressing current social divisions and exploring paths toward unity. Exhibition: Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, USA (10.10.2021-09.01.2022).
