Despite extensive research on aphids, no comprehensive review has been published covering all aspects of their biology. While some small books address specific topics such as nomenclature, ecology, physiology, and natural enemies, a multi-author approach is necessary to present a thorough review. This three-volume work includes contributions from over 40 authors. The first volume discusses morphology and systematics, anatomy, genetics, life cycles, ways of life, reproduction, polymorphism, and interactions with the environment. It also includes an in-depth study of aphid evolution, particularly in relation to plant evolution, as well as the processes governing population structure and speciation.
