The report updates the Food Insecurity Atlas of Rural India, originally released in 2001, as part of a collaborative initiative by the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation and the World Food Programme to assess food security in India. It highlights the sustainability of food security and emphasizes the need for collective efforts from various sectors, including government and NGOs, to achieve a hunger-free India. The initiative aims to mobilize action towards this goal by 2007, coinciding with India's sixtieth independence anniversary.
