Inequality, Socio-cultural Differentiation and Social Structures in Africa

Challenging traditional class concepts, this book argues that they fail to fully represent social inequality and cultural differences in Africa. It highlights how empirical findings related to ethnicity, neo-traditional authorities, patron-client dynamics, lifestyles, gender, social networks, and informal social security reveal the limitations of class frameworks. Despite the wealth of evidence that supports this perspective, these insights have largely been overlooked in discussions about social structures in Africa.
