The role of tone in marking future tense in Xibila

The author presents a novel perspective on the Future Tense in Xibila, a variant of Changana, by asserting that it is marked morpho-suprasegmentally rather than solely through morphological means. This challenges previous research that prioritized morphology in tense and aspect marking. Through a combination of philological data, interviews, and introspective methods, the study reveals that tone plays a crucial role alongside morphemes in Future Tense marking, while highlighting that phonetic differences exist across Changana variants rather than morpho-tonological ones.
