Set in 1806 Ohio, the story follows seventeen-year-old Susanna Quiner as she embarks on a daring quest to rescue her four sisters, kidnapped by Potawatomi Indians. With the loss of her parents and isolation from other settlers, Susanna navigates through various challenges, including life in a Moravian village and a Wyandot longhouse. Concurrently, Seth Spendlove, who is intertwined with the kidnapping, seeks to reclaim his heritage while searching for Susanna. The novel explores themes of survival, transformation, and the complexities of pioneer life amidst Native American cultures.
