Set in the early 1950s in western North Carolina, a young boy nicknamed Butch faces the life-altering challenge of battling polio. Hospitalized in a makeshift facility overwhelmed with sick children, he endures a harsh and impersonal environment, leaving him physically weakened and emotionally scarred. His strict father offers little solace, but everything changes when a mysterious puppy enters his life, sparking a series of miraculous events that restore his hope and spirit, ultimately transforming his childhood experience.
