The examination of pristine shamanism in Greenland reveals a unique perspective, focusing on communities that experienced late contact with Western influences. Drawing on previously unavailable Danish material, the author challenges Mircea Eliade's traditional view of the shaman as merely a master of ecstasy, proposing instead that their true role is as masters of spirits. This fresh analysis contributes significantly to the understanding of shamanism and its practices in a specific cultural context.
