The neo-baroque Sarabande and Gavotte, early works by Johannes Brahms, reveal a unique aspect of his musical evolution. Although previously overlooked, manuscript evidence and performance history suggest that Brahms considered these dances significant in the mid-1850s. Ultimately, he chose to suppress them, incorporating elements of these pieces into his later compositions. This exploration sheds light on Brahms' creative process and the development of his distinctive style.
