The analysis focuses on the metaphor of the gaze as portrayed through female characters in the works of Puerto Rican writer Olga Nolla and Mexican writer Ángeles Mastretta. Utilizing Jacques Lacan's psychoanalytic theory and Simone de Beauvoir's feminist criticism, it examines how these characters subvert patriarchal culture. The selected texts, including Nolla's El manuscrito de Miramar and Mastretta's Mujeres de ojos grandes and Maridos, reveal shared themes that highlight the complexities of female representation within their narratives.
