Set in 1771, the story follows John MacKenzie as he arrives in St. Augustine and becomes embroiled in a perilous adventure to protect Becky Campbell from the sinister James Tyrone. Alongside a seasoned sailor, Blackpool Bobby, and Jeremiah, a black slave-hunter, they navigate the wild Florida terrain in search of hidden gold. Their journey is fraught with danger as they are relentlessly pursued by Tyrone's lethal trackers, culminating in a dramatic confrontation on the Florida Gulf Coast.
