The book explores the roots of authoritarian governance in Cameroon, tracing its origins back to French colonial practices. It argues that colonialism ingrained the belief that authoritarian rule was legitimate and that force was an acceptable means of control. The leadership established post-decolonization was essentially a puppet regime, comprised of local figures who were chosen by the French to uphold their interests. This arrangement perpetuated a system where the leaders remained disconnected from the populace, prioritizing colonial legacies over democratic engagement.
