The research study evolved from its initial focus on four key regions to encompass a broader scope due to emerging information about the scale of atrocities. It highlights the significant loss of Amhara lives, particularly in West Harerge, where the death toll reached 10,000 to 15,000, paralleling the Metekel massacre. The study also expanded to include critical incidents in West Arsi, covering areas from Shashemene to Kofele, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of events surrounding 2005/2006.
