Conformity and Resistance in Mahabad

Focusing on young people's sense of belonging in Mahabad, this research explores the impact of local, national, and transnational media consumption on their perceptions of events and environments. Utilizing reflexive visual methods, it encourages youth to create photographs reflecting their views on relevant local issues. The resulting work reveals the complex and sometimes conflicting influences shaping their identities, particularly how idealized Western images can both challenge and reinforce their understanding of place and community within Iran's socio-cultural landscape.
