Guanxi, a crucial cultural factor in China, significantly influences performance appraisal within organizations, yet its effects have not been thoroughly studied. This book addresses this gap through in-depth case studies in three banks with varying ownership structures, utilizing both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. It develops a measurement scale focusing on guanxi's impact on outcomes and communication. The findings reveal notable differences in employee reactions to performance appraisals across state-owned, foreign, and city banks, highlighting the complexity of guanxi in organizational contexts.
