Set in the 1840s, the Donnelly family's immigration from Ireland to Canada leads to turmoil when the patriarch is imprisoned for manslaughter. Left to fend for themselves, the mother and her eight children grow up in a violent environment, fostering fierce loyalty among them. As they establish a stagecoach business, conflicts with local power structures and neighbors intensify.
